Oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) has become famous as a natural antibiotic, and its antimicrobial effect has been proven by modern medicine research. It owes its power to the high content of carvacrol, which belongs to phenolic compounds. Carvacrol not only kills bacteria, viruses and fungi, but also has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which is where the other properties of oregano oil come from.

Oregano oil is commonly used in natural medicine, mainly to boost immunity and cleanse the body of microorganisms. It is also used as a digestive aid, to relieve allergies and to unblock a blocked nose and sinuses. It is excellent for massaging tense muscles and strained joints.

Oregano essential oil is considered safe (it has GRAS status), but you have to be careful when using it. It is such a highly concentrated essence of active compounds that in its pure form it can burn the skin and mucous membranes, and also burn marks in wood and other surfaces. Therefore, it is always diluted before use (details in the method of use) and used in very small quantities.

Interestingly, this oil is not only good as a supplement – ​​it is also perfect for use in the kitchen. It is worth adding it to sauces, pizzas, casseroles, toasts and other dishes with cheese, olive oil and tomatoes. It absorbs very well and gives dishes a fantastic aroma. Additionally, thanks to its bactericidal properties, it naturally prolongs the shelf life of food. Just remember to use it in very small quantities, because it has an intensely bitter taste.

• Oregano essential oil kills a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, which has been repeatedly demonstrated in laboratory studies. Thanks to this property, oregano oil effectively supports the body’s immune system in the fight against infections, colds and infections, and also strengthens the defense mechanisms that protect our body from pathogens every day [1, 2].

• Bioactive ingredients contained in oregano oil ensure the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system. They strengthen blood vessels and inhibit adverse changes in the endothelium, and also help maintain normal blood pressure and heart rate [1, 6].

HOW TO USE

Attention:

THE OIL MUST BE DILUTED BEFORE USE!

Never try to dilute oregano oil in water!!!

ORAL Ingestion

Before consumption, the oil should be mixed with honey, natural syrup, milk (preferably full-fat) or yogurt, but best with tomato juice combined with olive oil (it’s about a combination of fat + acid). This oil is very well absorbed with food.

Quantities and concentrations:

1. If you want to use oregano oil daily for good health and fitness, you have two options:

The first one

: dilute the oil in olive oil to a 5% concentration (some recommend 20%, but in the case of oils, more does not mean better) and use a few drops of the resulting mixture daily as above, i.e. on honey, sugar, milk, etc.

The second

: use one small drop of undiluted oil once every two days after mixing with honey, sugar, milk, etc.

2. If you want to use oregano oil for infections, colds, stomach flu, or parasites, use 5 drops a day (mixed with honey, sugar, milk, etc.) for 7, max 10 days. Longer use can lead to the sterilization of your intestinal microflora!!

3. If you want to support yourself with oregano oil for candidiasis, use 1 drop of pure oil 2 times a day after mixing with a spoon of oil (preferably one that is rich in omega-3 acids, i.e. fresh hemp or linseed oil). In the case of candidiasis, it is not recommended to mix the oil with sugar, honey or milk, because these products are a breeding ground for the fungus. After 1-2 weeks, increase the dosage to 2 drops 2 times a day, or 3 times a day if you tolerate the oil well. Use the oil for a maximum of 4 weeks. Remember that the basis for fighting candidiasis is a proper diet, which should run parallel to the use of the oil. 4. You can give oregano oil to children over 2 years of age, but in quantities half as small as for adults.

EXTERNAL USE

• Inhalation – add 2-3 drops of oil to a container of hot water and inhale the rising steam, but do not let the steam get into your eyes. Use for troublesome runny nose and blocked sinuses. Never drip the oil into your nose.

• Skin – add 10-15 drops of oil (for children about 5 drops) to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. grape seed) and mix well. You can warm the oil a little. Before use, check that it does not irritate the skin. Rub into aching joints and muscles and into infections and skin infections (e.g. herpes, fungal infections, bacterial infections).Avoid contact with eyes!!!

• Bath – Add 5-10 drops of oil to a glass of salt, which you pour into a tub of hot water. Immerse yourself in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).

• Oral disinfection – mix 1 drop of oil with a little oil or vodka and rinse your mouth for a minute, then spit it out.

• Aromatherapy – fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 2-3 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.

• Surface disinfection – add a few drops of oil to a bottle of natural detergent. Never use pure oil on any surface – the oil burns the marks.

SYNERGY

Oregano oil combined with thyme oil provides solid immune support for upper respiratory tract infections.

CONTRAINDICATIONS AND WARNINGS

Pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Hypersensitivity to oregano or other plants from the Lamiaceae family.

Taking blood-thinning medications.

Do not use 2 weeks before or after surgery.

Do not use before tooth extraction.

People taking antidiabetic medications or herbs that lower blood sugar levels should exercise extra caution as oregano oil may enhance the antidiabetic effects.

Oregano oil may impair the absorption of iron and zinc.
