Alocutan Forte, 50 mg/ml, skin spray, solution, 60 ml

Alocutan Forte 50 mg/ml is indicated for the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia).

• Alocutan Forte is used to treat male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) in the tonsure area of ​​the scalp measuring 3 to 10 cm in diameter in men aged 18 to 49 years.
• Treatment with Alocutan Forte stimulates hair growth and counteracts the progression of androgenetic alopecia. The therapeutic effect may vary from patient to patient and cannot be predicted. The onset of androgenetic alopecia in men is characterized by a receding hairline on the forehead and temples with the formation of so-called receding hairlines. Then, hair loss increases on the top of the head (in the tonsure area).

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Recommended dose

• A dose of 1 ml of Alocutan Forte should be applied to the affected area of ​​the scalp twice daily (morning and evening). The daily dose of 2 ml should not be exceeded, regardless of the size of the affected area.

Method of administration

For use on the skin (scalp). Each Alocutan Forte pack contains two different spray pump applicators: 

• pre-mounted applicator for use on large surfaces,
• separate applicator with an extended tip designed for small surfaces.

The two applicators can be interchanged by disconnecting one applicator and replacing it with the other. To obtain a single dose of 1 ml of solution, 6 sprays of the aerosol are required.

Instructions for use/application

1. The solution is sprayed directly onto the scalp in the balding area. To do this, press the pump six times.
2. After each press of the pump, spread the liquid with your fingertips over the affected area, thereby avoiding inhaling the spray mist.
3. Alocutan Forte should be applied to dry scalp (tonsured area). Alocutan Forte should not be applied to other parts of the body.
4. After applying Alocutan Forte, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent accidental contact with mucous membranes and eyes.
5. After applying Alocutan Forte, your hair can be styled as usual.
6. However, the scalp should not be wet for about 4 hours. This will prevent the Alocutan Forte from being washed out.

Duration of treatment

The onset and rate of hair regrowth vary from patient to patient. In order to achieve visible results, treatment is usually carried out with the application of the drug twice daily for 2 to 4 months. In order to maintain the effect, it is recommended to continue to apply the drug without interruption, twice daily. Applying Alocutan Forte in larger amounts and more frequently does not lead to better results. There is sufficient clinical experience regarding the possible therapeutic effect in the case of treatment for up to 1 year. When treating hair follicles with the active ingredient minoxidil, the resting phase (telogen) of the hair growth cycle is shortened and the transition to the growth phase (anagen) occurs more quickly. This stimulates new hair growth, causing old, inactive hairs to fall out. As a result, there is an initial impression of increased hair loss. In some patients, this reaction is observed for two to six weeks after starting treatment with the active ingredient minoxidil. However, there is no need to worry, because this reaction is related to hair regrowth. This effect disappears within a few weeks and can be considered the first symptom of the effect of minoxidil.

If you have the impression that the effect of Alocutan Forte is too strong or too weak, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Do not use Alocutan Forte:

• if you are allergic to minoxidil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• in women, due to isolated cases of disturbing, reversible facial hair growth during treatment; 
• if you use other medications on the scalp;
• if you experience sudden and patchy hair loss.
