Xenna herbs against constipation in the form of sachets with dried senna leaves for brewing. The preparation belongs to laxative drugs with a non-rapid effect, which begins to be felt after 8-12 hours from administration. The active substance of the preparation are anthranoids, also called sennosides, contained in the leaves of the Senna Mill. A single sachet contains 0.9-1.1 g of Cassia angustifolia Vahl folium and/or Cassia senna L. folium herbal raw material, which corresponds to 30 mg of anthranoid compounds, calculated as sennoside B.
Composition
1 sachet contains:
- Sennae folium 0.9 g – 1.1 g which corresponds to 30 mg of anthranoids expressed as sennoside B.
Indications
Laxative herbs for use in the immediate treatment of constipation. Xenna is a drug that stimulates the activity of the large intestine and causes stool softening.
Action
Laxative.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
- Adults, the elderly and adolescents over 12 years of age: pour a glass of boiling water (approx. 200 ml) over 1 sachet (0.9 g – 1.1 g) and leave to infuse for 10 minutes.
- Drink once a day from half a glass of infusion to a whole glass of infusion once before bedtime.
- Always drink fresh infusion. Xenna removes constipation not suddenly, because it works after about 8-12 hours.
- It is recommended to increase the intake of decaffeinated fluids while using the drug.
- Taking for longer than 1-2 weeks requires medical supervision.
- If symptoms persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
- The drug can only be used when a change of diet and then mild laxatives (e.g. bulking agents) have not produced the desired results.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity (allergy) to the active substance or any of the ingredients of this medicine.
- In case of intestinal obstruction.
- In case of appendicitis.
- In case of acute inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis).
- In case of abdominal pain of unknown origin or in states of dehydration with loss of electrolytes.
- Do not give products containing senna to children under 12 years of age.
Side effects ATTENTION!
- Abdominal cramps and pain, diarrhea with watery stools, especially in people with irritable bowel syndrome. This reaction may be caused by taking too high a dose of the drug, then it is necessary to reduce the dose. Chronic use may lead to colon pigmentation disorders (change in the color of the intestinal mucosa to brown), which disappear after discontinuation of the preparation.
- Hypersensitivity reactions: itching, hives, rash occurring locally or all over the body.
- Water and electrolyte metabolism disorders, especially albuminuria (presence of low molecular weight proteins in the urine), hematuria (presence of blood in the urine) in the case of long-term use of the preparation.
- Change in the color of urine to yellow or reddish-brown (this effect does not require discontinuation of the drug).
