The active substance of Xyzal Allergy is levocetirizine dihydrochloride. Xyzal Allergy is an antiallergic drug.
Indications
Xyzal Allergy is used to treat symptoms associated with:
- allergic rhinitis (including chronic allergic rhinitis);
- hives.
Symptoms of allergic rhinitis include itching, redness and watery eyes, nasal discharge, sneezing and itchy nose.
Xyzal Allergy is indicated for use in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and older.
If after 3 days there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, contact your doctor.
Active substance: Levocetirizine dihydrochloride
Composition
The active substance is levocetirizine dihydrochloride. Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg levocetirizine dihydrochloride.
The other ingredients of the drug are: microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate and Opadry Y-1-7000 coating which includes: hypromellose (E 464), titanium dioxide (E 171) and macrogol 400.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The recommended dose for adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and over is 1 tablet daily.
Dosage in special patient groups:
Renal and hepatic impairment
In patients with renal impairment the dose may need to be reduced depending on the severity of the renal disease, in children the dose should also be adjusted according to body weight; the dose will be determined by the doctor.
Xyzal Allergy must not be used in patients with severe renal impairment.
Patients who only have liver problems should take the usual recommended dose.
Patients who have both liver and kidney problems may need a lower dose depending on the severity of their kidney disease, in children the dose will also be adjusted according to body weight; the dose will be determined by the doctor.
Elderly patients (65 years and over)
There is no need to adjust the dose in elderly patients provided their renal function is normal.
How and when should I take Xyzal Allergy?
For oral use only.
Xyzal Allergy tablets should be swallowed whole with water. The medicine can be taken during or between meals.
How long should I take Xyzal Allergy?
The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and severity of the symptoms of the disease and is determined by the doctor. You should consult a doctor or pharmacist.
Do not use the medicine for longer than 10 days without consulting a doctor. If after 3 days there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, contact your doctor.
Taking more than the recommended dose of Xyzal Allergy
In adults, if you take more Xyzal Allergy than you should, drowsiness may occur. In children, you may initially experience agitation and restlessness, especially motor, followed by drowsiness.
If you suspect that you have taken more Xyzal Allergy than you should, you should contact your doctor, who will decide what action should be taken.
Missing the use of Xyzal Allergy
If you miss a dose of Xyzal Allergy or take a smaller dose than your doctor recommended, do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose. In this case, take the next dose at the usual time.
Stopping the use of Xyzal Allergy
Stopping the use of Xyzal Allergy should not cause any harmful effects. However, in rare cases, pruritus (intense itching) may occur after stopping the use of Xyzal Allergy, even if these symptoms were not present before starting the treatment. These symptoms may disappear spontaneously. In some cases, these symptoms may be intense and may require resumption of treatment. These symptoms should disappear after resumption of the treatment.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents
It is not recommended to administer Xyzal Allergy tablets to children under 6 years of age.
Contraindications
When not to use Xyzal Allergy:
- if you are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, cetirizine, hydroxyzine, active substances with a similar chemical structure to piperazine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
- if you have severe kidney problems (severe renal failure with creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min).
