What is Thiocodin and how does it work?
Thiocodin tablets contain two active substances: codeine phosphate hemihydrate and sulfoguaiacol. Codeine phosphate hemihydrate has an antitussive effect , inhibits the cough reflex, reducing the frequency of coughing attacks. Sulfoguaiacol has an expectorant effect, facilitates the movement of liquefied secretions in the respiratory tract and their expectoration. Thiocodin tablets should be used orally only.
When is Thiocodin used?
Treatment of dry, persistent cough without expectoration of sputum.

How to use Thiocodin?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended dosage
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 tablet 3 times a day, no more often than every 4 to 6 hours. Thiocodin is not recommended for use in adolescents aged 12 to 18 years with respiratory disorders in the treatment of cough.
Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
Method of administration The medicine should be taken orally, during meals. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. You should drink at least 2 liters of fluids during the day. This will facilitate expectoration of secretions.
Do not use higher doses than recommended.
The medicine should not be used for longer than 3 days without a doctor’s recommendation. The doctor should decide on extending the treatment.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age:

When should you not take Thiocodin?
Do not take Thiocodin:
- if you are allergic to codeine phosphate hemihydrate, sulfoguaiacol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- if you have bronchial asthma,
- if you have respiratory failure (difficulty breathing, e.g. shallow breathing, slower and/or irregular breathing, emphysema),
- if the patient is in a coma,
- if you have cystic fibrosis (a genetic disease that causes the production of excessively sticky mucus),
- if you have bronchiectasis (chronic inflammation of the bronchi, characterized by coughing up a lot of sputum),
- if the patient is addicted to alcohol,
- if the patient is addicted to opioids (morphine, heroin),
- if the patient is under 12 years old,
- if the patient is known to metabolize codeine to morphine very rapidly,
- if the patient is pregnant,
- if you are breastfeeding,
- if the patient expectorates sputum (because this medicine inhibits the cough reflex and excessive sputum retention in the respiratory tract may occur),
- if you are currently taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or have taken such medications within the last 14 days.
