Wild mallow – action, properties, composition
Both the flower (up to 10%) and the leaf (up to 8%) of wild mallow contain mucus rich in polysaccharides composed of arabinose, glucose, galactose and glucuronic acid. It has a coating effect on the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract and has an antitussive effect , particularly strong in laryngeal and tracheal cough. Additionally, the leaves contain tannins , and the flowers contain anthocyanosides (malvin) and phytosterols . The anthocyanosides contained in the flowers are responsible for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of the raw material. The antibacterial effects of mallow are also known . Its activity against Staphylococcus aureus and S. agalactiae has been demonstrated.
Malva ingredients soften and protect the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, restore the movement of the ciliated epithelium, which in turn reduces inflammation.
