Prospan contains dry ivy leaf extract . The main active ingredients of dry ivy leaf extract (Hedera helix) are glycosidic triterpene saponins (α-hederin, hederagenin and hederacoside C).
Prospan syrup is used in respiratory tract infections to reduce symptoms accompanying acute and chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract, which occurs with cough. The preparation has a secretolytic effect (liquefies accumulated bronchial secretion), spasmolytic effect (relaxes smooth bronchial muscles) and cough-relieving effect. Thanks to these properties, bronchial mucus accumulated in the respiratory tract is liquefied and its expectoration is facilitated.
