Nurofen Express Forte 400 mg, for pain and fever, 20 soft capsules

Nurofen Express Forte 400 mg contains the active substance Ibuprofen , which belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medicines work by changing the body’s response to pain and high temperature.

• Each tablet contains 400 mg of Ibuprofen.
• A rapidly absorbing drug with a targeted analgesic effect.
• Can be used while breastfeeding.
• The active substance (ibuprofen) is in liquid form – ready to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
• Nurofen Express Forte is intended for use in adults and adolescents weighing over 40 kg (aged 12 years and over).

Nurofen Express Forte is indicated in adults and children and adolescents weighing more than 40 kg (aged 12 years and over) for the short-term symptomatic treatment of mild to moderate pain such as headache, period pain, toothache and fever and pain associated with the common cold.

Each capsule contains 400 mg of ibuprofen.

Additionally, the medicine contains: macrogol 600, potassium hydroxide, purified water. Capsule composition: gelatin, liquid sorbitol, partially dehydrated, purified water, cochineal red (E 124); Ink: Opacode WB White NS-78-18011 with the composition: titanium dioxide (E 171), propylene glycol, hypromellose 3 cP; Processing aids: medium chain saturated triglycerides, lecithin.

• Adults and adolescents weighing more than 40 kg (aged 12 years and over): starting dose: 1 capsule (400 mg ibuprofen) with water; if necessary, take 1 capsule (400 mg ibuprofen) every 6 hours. Do not take more than 3 capsules (1200 mg ibuprofen) in 24 hours.
• This medicine should not be given to adolescents weighing less than 40 kg or under 12 years of age.
• For oral use. Do not chew the capsules.
• Patients with a sensitive stomach should take Nurofen Express Forte with a meal. If taken immediately after a meal, the onset of action may be delayed. In this case, do not take a larger dose of Nurofen Express Forte or within a shorter time interval than recommended.
• This product is intended for short-term use only. The lowest effective dose should be taken for the shortest time necessary to reduce symptoms.
• In adolescents, medical advice should be sought if the drug is required for more than 3 days or if symptoms become severe.
• If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 3 days when treating fever or after 4 days when treating pain, contact your doctor.
• If you feel that the effect of the medicine is stronger or weaker than expected, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Always use Nurofen Express Forte exactly as described in this leaflet. If you are not sure, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

• in case of hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, cochineal red (E124) or any of the ingredients of the drug,
• if you have suffered from shortness of breath, asthma, rhinitis, swelling or hives when previously taking acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) or other similar painkillers (NSAIDs),
• if you have (or have had two or more distinct episodes of) stomach and/or duodenum ulcer (peptic ulcer) or bleeding,
• if you have had bleeding or perforation in the digestive tract during previous use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs),
• if you have unexplained disorders of the blood-forming system,
• if you have severe liver, kidney or heart failure,
• if you are in the last trimester of pregnancy (see section Pregnancy and breast-feeding),
• if you are severely dehydrated (due to vomiting, diarrhea or insufficient fluid intake),
• if you have cerebrovascular bleeding or other active bleeding.

This medicine should not be given to children under 12 years of age or adolescents weighing less than 40 kg.

When to be especially careful when using Nurofen Express Forte:

• if you have systemic lupus erythematosus or mixed connective tissue disease (immune system diseases causing joint pain, skin lesions and fever),
• if you have severe skin reactions such as exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis. Nurofen Express Forte should be discontinued immediately at the first appearance of skin rash, lesions on the mucous membranes or any other signs of allergic reactions,
• if you have certain congenital blood formation disorders (e.g. acute intermittent porphyria) or coagulation disorders,
• if you have or have had bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease),
• in case of renal dysfunction,
• in case of liver dysfunction,
• if the patient has recently had surgery,
• if you have or have had asthma or allergic disease, as shortness of breath may occur,
• if you have hay fever, nasal polyps or chronic obstructive respiratory disorders, as there is an increased risk of an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction may take the form of an asthma attack (so-called analgesic asthma), acute angioedema (Quincke’s edema) or skin rash,
• if you are taking medicines that may increase the risk of ulceration or bleeding, such as oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (antidepressants) or antiplatelet medicines such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin).
