What is Nizoral shampoo?
Nizoral medicinal shampoo is indicated for the treatment and prevention of, among others, dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis.
Nizoral medicated shampoo is an antifungal drug for topical application to the skin. The drug contains the active substance ketoconazole.
When is Nizoral used?
Nizoral medicated shampoo is indicated for the treatment and prevention of the following skin diseases caused by yeasts of the Malassezia genus (formerly called Pityrosporum):
- dandruff (exfoliation of the scalp skin in the form of white, easily detachable scales).
- seborrheic dermatitis (brownish-red patches on the chest and face that peel off as white or yellow scales).
Nizoral, a medicinal shampoo, is also indicated in the treatment of:
- pityriasis versicolor caused by Pityriasis versicolor (small white spots on the skin of the chest).
Active substance: Ketoconazole
Composition
Active substance: 1 g of medicated shampoo contains 20 mg of ketoconazole (Ketoconazolum).
Other ingredients: Sodium lauryl sulfate ether, monolaurylsulfonsuccinic acid disodium salt, coconut fatty acid diethanolamide, laurdimonium – hydrolyzed animal collagen, macrogol 120 methyl glucose dioleate, fragrance, sodium chloride, imidurea, sodium hydroxide, concentrated hydrochloric acid, sodium erythrosine, purified water.
How to use Nizoral shampoo?
The drug is intended for topical application to the skin in adolescents (over 12 years of age) and adults.
Dosage
Unless your doctor has told you otherwise, Nizoral medicated shampoo is usually used as described below.
1. Apply a small amount of shampoo to the infected skin – usually 1 sachet or a handful of the medicine is enough
for one application (hair can be washed with normal shampoo beforehand).
2. Using a small amount of water, spread the shampoo evenly over the skin. In the case of
long hair, it is enough to wash only the scalp.
3. Rub the shampoo into the skin until it lathers.
4. Leave the lather on the skin for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse.
5. You can use your regular shampoo on a daily basis.
Treatment:
- Pityriasis versicolor: use once daily for 5 consecutive days.
- Seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff of the scalp: use twice a week for 2 to 4 weeks.
Prevention:
- Pityriasis versicolor: use once daily for 3 consecutive days for one treatment cycle, before the summer period.
- Seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff of the scalp: use once a week or once every two weeks.
