Pine oil 100% essential

10ml

Pine oil is obtained from the needles and twigs of the Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) by steam distillation.

It gives off a fresh, resinous scent, like the one that makes you take a deep breath in a coniferous forest. The woody note is complemented by a subtle, slightly camphor-like sweetness. It is worth tasting this scent both cold and warm. The oil dropped onto a handkerchief smells more “medicinal” and refreshing. Heated in a fireplace, it seems warmer, sweeter and more “forest-like”. I also recommend combining this oil with lemon oil in a 1:1 ratio. This creates a truly intoxicating composition.

The main active ingredients of pine oil are monoterpenes, the concentration of which in the oil reaches 90%. Monoterpenes are susceptible to oxidation, which is why it is important to store this oil in the refrigerator.

Scots pine has always been a valuable herbal raw material. To this day, needles, resin, young shoots and flowers are obtained from it. Oil is made from needles, many medicinal preparations from resin, and young shoots and flowers are worth eating raw – they are a bomb of bioactive compounds with health-promoting effects. Being in a pine forest and inhaling its scent also has a positive effect on the body.

In ancient medicine, decoctions of pine needles were used for inhalation in respiratory diseases. They were also poured into baths, which were taken in the case of rheumatism, bone and muscle pain. Needle infusions were drunk for colds to recover faster, or used to wash the skin as an antiseptic. Syrup or honey were made from young shoots, which were supposed to strengthen the entire body and improve immunity.

FEATURES

  • Pine oil is an ally of the respiratory system. It perfectly clears the nose, sinuses and lower respiratory tract. It helps to thin and expectorate lung secretions when we are tormented by a strong cough.
  • This oil has antimicrobial properties, which, combined with the above, makes it a fantastic natural remedy for colds, flu, and various infections. It is good to inhale it, as well as diffuse it into the air to cleanse both the body and the room.
  • Pine oil is an effective antiseptic for the skin and mucous membranes. It can be rubbed into skin affected by fungus or bacterial infection, and also added to baths and sitz baths in the case of infections of intimate areas.
  • Pine oil has warming properties and relieves muscle and joint pain and neuralgia. It is worth using it in a full-body massage after intense physical exercise, as well as rubbing it into the joints for rheumatic and arthritic pain.
  • Pine oil repels insects.
  • In relation to the nervous system, pine oil has an energizing effect and sharpens concentration. It lifts the spirit and clears the mind of the crowd of thoughts. It is ideal for heating in the fireplace during meditation.

APPLICATION

  • For inhalation in case of cough, runny nose, asthma, inhalant allergies, upper respiratory tract infections, hoarseness.
  • As a skin disinfectant.
  • For baths and sitz baths for infections and inflammations of intimate areas.

HOW TO USE

  • Aromatherapy burner – fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 3-8 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.
  • Inhalation – add a few drops of oil to hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the rising steam for 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to get the steam in your eyes. You can also put a drop of oil on a tissue and inhale it several times a day.
  • Bath – Add 3-15 drops of oil to a tub of hot water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).
  • Massage – add 15-30 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. avocado) and mix. You can warm the oil up a bit.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) is a member of the pine family. It occurs naturally throughout Europe and Siberia. It is cultivated in New Zealand and North America in temperate climates. It easily spreads from cultivation to natural environments.

The pine tree grows to a height of 30-40 m. When it grows in clusters, the lower part of its trunk is bare, and the crown forms an “umbrella”. When it grows alone, its crown is denser and its shape is conical. The pine tree has 3-7 cm long needles, which it replaces every 3-6 years. It is wind-pollinated. Its flowers can be male or female. They produce microscopic, yellow pollen, which they release in May. It can then be seen on the ground and on the edges of puddles. It is worth mentioning that it has health-promoting properties. After pollination, it takes a year for fertilization to occur. Then the seeds are born, which fall out of the cones the following year.
