Lemon Eucalyptus Oil 100% Essential Nanga

Lemon eucalyptus oil is extracted from the leaves of lemon eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodoria) – a mighty Australian tree that grows up to 45 m tall. It is related to the “ordinary” eucalyptus globulus, but as its name suggests, it is distinguished from it by its unusual smell.

Lemon eucalyptus secretes a resin with a pleasant, citrusy smell. Its leaves have a similar smell. This is due to the high citronellal content of the tree, which gives it a smell similar to lemongrass or citronella. Citronella leaves also contain a lot of citronellal. This compound is known for its exceptional effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes, which is why both these oils – lemon eucalyptus and citronella – are commonly used as ingredients in repellents. Their effectiveness is comparable to that of DEET – the most powerful chemical mosquito repellent ever developed.

On the other hand, lemon eucalyptus contains almost no cineole, the compound that gives classic eucalyptus its characteristic camphoraceous aroma. This oil therefore smells pleasantly, sweetly citrusy, a bit herbal, and not at all eucalyptus-like.

Lemon eucalyptus is a tree valued for its oil and durable wood, as well as for its ornamental use. We can find it in parks when we travel to Australia, where it often grows in rows along the avenues. The tree is now cultivated not only in its native country, but also in China and Brazil.

Lemon eucalyptus has found its place in traditional medicine. Its leaves were once used by the indigenous inhabitants of Australia – the Aborigines. They used them to treat all infections and diseases caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. They drank infusions during fevers and colds or washed their skin with them. They applied compresses made of freshly ground leaves to wounds and infections. They also obtained resin from the tree, which they used for diarrhea and urinary tract diseases.

HOW TO USE

  • Aromatherapy burner – fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 3-10 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.
  • Inhalation – add 2-3 drops of oil to hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the rising steam for 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to get the steam in your eyes. You can also put a drop of oil on a tissue and inhale it several times a day.
  • Bath – Add 3-15 drops of oil to a tub of hot water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).
  • Massage – add 15-30 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. almond) and mix. You can warm the oil up a bit.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

Lemon eucalyptus belongs to the myrtaceae family. It occurs naturally in the north and east of Australia. It is a huge tree, reaching an average height of 35, and sometimes even 45 m. It has a slender trunk and a not very dense crown. From a distance, you can see its smooth, almost white bark, covered here and there with light brown, peeling flakes. Its leaves are elongated and narrow, lanceolate. The flowers are white, “fluffy” from numerous stamens. The fruits look like green, miniature yerba mate gourds.
