Tea Tree Oil Australia 100% Essential Nanga
This oil is made from the leaves and young twigs of the tea tree, which, despite its similar name, has nothing to do with the tea bush. It is a species of Melaleuca alternifolia, which occurs naturally in Australia and New Zealand. Why is it called that? Its leaves were once used by sailors conquering lands in the Pacific to make an infusion that replaced tea. So that’s what they called it and it stuck.
Tea tree oil gives off an intoxicating, floral scent, broken by mint-camphor freshness. Some may find it a bit too “medicinal”, but the addition of another citrus-scented oil perfectly masks this note and emphasizes the juicy, floral sweetness.
This oil is famous for its strong antiseptic properties, which is why it is recommended as one of the basic ingredients of a herbal medicine cabinet. It effectively cleanses the skin and mucous membranes of bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa, has an expectorant and analgesic effect, disinfects the air, rooms and fabrics. It owes its effect to the high content of active compounds from the terpene group, of which about 60 have been identified in it. The most important of them are cineole and terpin-4-ol.
Interestingly, during World War II, tea tree oil was one of the elements of medical equipment of soldiers, who used it to disinfect wounds and care for injuries. And the leaves of melaleuca themselves were used in ancient times by the Aborigines to prepare compresses for wounds and skin diseases, as well as decoctions to drink in the case of poisoning and infections of the digestive system.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS
The tea tree, or Melaleuka alternifolia, belongs to the myrtaceae family. It is an endemic species to Australia, which means that it occurs nowhere else in the world. It likes damp and marshy places, which is why we can find it in swamps and on the banks of water. It is a low tree – it reaches about 7 m. Its trunk is covered with light, thin bark. The leaves are narrow and elongated, like those of rosemary or lavender. The flowers are white, gathered in inflorescences that seem to be “fluffy” due to the multitude of long stamens. The fruits of melaleuca are small, hard and woody. They form tightly packed inflorescences.
