This oil is obtained from the leaves and flowers of Spanish verbena – Thymus hyemalis. Do not confuse it with verbena oil, which is obtained from lemon verbena (Lippia citriodora). Spanish verbena is a fragrant herbaceous plant, related to thyme. It occurs mainly in Spain. Its leaves are rich in citral, which gives them a distinct, citrus aroma.

Spanish verbena oil smells like a combination of lemon balm and bitter orange. At first, you can feel a delightful sweetness, which is soon complemented by a strongly citrusy and slightly bitter note. The scent of the oil is so complete that you can successfully use it on its own. However, if you feel that it is too bitter for you, add

a little bit

very sweet-smelling oil, e.g. lemon balm, clove or tea tree (2-3 drops of verbena + 1 drop of sweet oil).

Spanish verbena oil is a fairly rare product, produced on a small scale. It is added to perfumes and high-quality cosmetics, whose manufacturers do not want to use synthetic citral to obtain a fresh, citrusy note.

At home, this oil is useful for aromatizing rooms and as an addition to cosmetics, laundry and cleaning products. It can also replace perfume. It is worth saturating the room with its scent during work or social gatherings. It quickly puts you in a good mood and relaxes. Some believe that it also acts as an aphrodisiac.

HOW TO USE

• Aromatherapy burner – fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 3-6 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.

• Bath – Add 5-10 drops of oil to a tub of hot water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).

• Massage – add 15-30 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. apricot kernel oil) and mix. You can warm the oil up a bit before use.

• Others – try one tiny drop of oil instead of perfume.Add the oil to cosmetics, laundry and cleaning products. Sparingly!

WARNINGS

Like any essential oil, it should be diluted before applying to the skin. It is phototoxic, causing skin discoloration when exposed to sunlight. It should not be used by pregnant women.
