Lavender oil France 100% essential

10ml

Lavender oil is obtained from the flowers of lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), also known as lavender. It is one of the most popular essential oils with extremely versatile applications. It has an intriguing scent that probably everyone who has encountered it likes. It is distinct, but not overwhelming, strongly herbal and not at all sweet. It reminds me of the scent of a summer sun-burnt, overgrown meadow. It immediately evokes positive thoughts and stops time for a moment, bringing peace and mindfulness.

Lavender comes from the Mediterranean region, where it has been cultivated for a very long time. It is easy to guess that it was used in ancient times. Infusions from its flowers were recommended for digestive problems, nervousness, insomnia and rheumatism. The properties of lavender have been studied for many years, which is why Commission E approved the information in its monograph that this plant has a positive effect on mood and sleep, circulation, the digestive tract and appetite.

Today, lavender is not only an important herbal raw material, but also a cosmetic, perfume and decorative one. Lavender flowers and the oil obtained from them can be found in numerous cosmetics and fragrance products. They are added to toners and creams, and are also used to scent soaps, bath salts, bedding and moth-repelling sachets for wardrobes. In perfumery, lavender oil is a component that perfectly combines compositions.

What is the difference between French lavender oil and Bulgarian lavender oil?

Each essential oil is unique! The chemical profile of the plant depends on, among other things, the type of soil in which it grows, the weather, and the geographical latitude. This means that French lavender oil differs slightly in composition, properties, and scent from that from Bulgaria. Bulgarian lavender oil is characterized by a much sweeter and more floral aroma; French lavender has a familiar scent, intoxicating with a herbal note, reminiscent of perfumes and colognes. Oils from France have a higher content of linalyl acetate and a lower concentration of linalool compared to Bulgarian ones. French lavender, popular in the perfume industry, will work better as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic; Bulgarian, on the other hand, will have a strong calming, relaxing, and sleep-inducing effect.

FEATURES

NERVOUS SYSTEM

Lavender oil has a multi-level effect on the nervous system: it lifts mood, relieves anxiety and restlessness, calms the mind, relaxes the body and facilitates falling asleep. It is probably one of the first oils that come to mind when we want to relax and sleep better. And rightly so, because its soothing effect has been proven in numerous studies on animals and with the participation of humans [1].

Mood, tension, anxiety

In a study by Lehrner et al., the effect of lavender oil scent on the mood of patients waiting in line to see a dentist was tested by spraying the oil in the waiting room. It turned out that this treatment had a positive effect on the patients’ well-being, inducing calmness and relieving the tension that naturally appears before a visit to the dentist [2].

The study by Field et al. also used lavender oil, this time in a cleansing gel. The study participants who smelled the gel became more relaxed and their mood improved, which helped them to cope better with a math problem. Psychological changes were recorded using a questionnaire, EEG and measuring heart rate [3].

Many studies were conducted using Silexan – a German patented drug based on lavender oil. In one of them, healthy participants took Silexan or placebo for 8 weeks, and their brains were subjected to MRI imaging. It turned out that Silexan clearly affected the serotonergic pathway, reducing the activity of the 5-HT1a receptor. This effect leads to calming and reducing anxiety. It can also be induced with drugs, but drugs have side effects, including reduced concentration and next-day dullness. Therefore, lavender oil can be a safe and non-invasive agent for relieving nervous tension in situations of anxiety, fear and stress [4].

Dream

An interesting study on the effect of lavender on sleep was conducted in 2015. It involved 79 students complaining of sleep problems. For 5 days, they were asked to inhale lavender or follow sleep hygiene rules or go to bed as usual. It turned out that the scent of lavender, as well as sleep hygiene, significantly improved the quality of sleep of the participants, and the best effect was achieved by combining these two activities [5].

The effect of lavender scent on patients diagnosed with insomnia was also observed. 10 participants completed the 4-week study. The experimental group inhaled lavender every day, the control group received a placebo. After completing the study, the lavender group had a significant improvement in sleep quality, as measured by the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) questionnaire [6].

The effect of lavender on sleep was also tested in postmenopausal women, postpartum women and patients treated with chemotherapy, as sleep problems are slightly more common in all these groups. In each of the above-mentioned cases, lavender had a positive effect on the quality of sleep of the subjects and improved night-time regeneration [7, 8, 9].

Pain

The effect of lavender on pain is studied just as thoroughly as on mood and sleep. In numerous experiments to date, patients have been given lavender oil for inhalation and its effect on various types of pain has been tested. It turns out that aromatherapy with lavender oil helps to relieve pain associated with menstruation, pregnancy and surgery, and massage relieves pain in inflamed joints [10, 11, 12, 13]. Animal studies show that lavender oil can also relieve neuralgia [14].

OTHER

Like all oils, lavender oil also has antiseptic properties and kills bacteria and fungi, which can be used in skin, hair and nail care, as well as in the case of minor wounds. In addition, this oil relieves pain and itching from insect bites and burns [1, 15, 16].

APPLICATION

  • For relaxation, calmness and a better mood.
  • For a good night’s sleep.
  • To relieve pain.
  • For skin care.
  • For bites, burns and minor wounds.
  • For making perfumes.
  • To repel moths and other insects.

HOW TO USE

  • Aromatherapy fireplace:

Fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 3-10 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.

  • Quick inhalation:

Sprinkle the oil on a handkerchief and inhale it when you feel anxious or low in mood, before going to bed or when you have a headache.

  • Bath:

Add 3-15 drops of oil to a tub of hot water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).

  • Massage:

Add 15-30 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. almond) and mix. You can warm the oil up a bit.

  • Other:

It is worth mentioning that lavender has a strong synergy with lemon balm. It is worth combining both of these oils in a burner, bath or massage and using them in the evening. They fantastically deepen relaxation and sleep.

Sprinkle oil on cabinets and closets to repel moths.

You can add the oil to face creams and tonics, as well as to shampoos and soaps. It is not irritating.
