Bay laurel oil is obtained from the leaves of the noble laurel (Laurus nobilis), or bay tree. It has a positive effect on digestion, supports the functioning of the respiratory system, and has antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is great for skin and hair care. It is commonly used to make creams, balms, soaps, or oils, and also as an ingredient in perfumes.

In ancient times, bay leaves had culinary, medical, and symbolic meanings. First, they were considered a divine artifact of Apollo, and later a symbol of eternal life. They were believed to cleanse sins and ward off evil spirits. Laurel wreaths were used not only to decorate the heads of Olympic victors, but also to protect homes from lightning. In medieval times, laurel wreaths were given to students obtaining their first degrees, known as bachelor (today’s licentiates).

HOW TO USE

Warning: Bay laurel oil can irritate the skin. Use it in very small amounts and always diluted. Before use, test it on a small area of ​​the skin (already diluted), especially if your skin is sensitive.

• Aromatherapy burner – fill the aromatherapy burner with water and add 3-5 drops of oil. Light a candle at the bottom. Stay close to the burner to inhale as many volatile compounds as possible.

• Inhalation – add 1-3 drops of oil to hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the rising steam for 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to get the steam in your eyes. You can also put a drop of oil on a tissue and inhale it several times a day.

• Bath – Add 3-6 drops of oil to a tub of hot water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).

• Massage – add 15 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. grape seed) and mix. You can warm the oil up a bit.

• Others – you can use the oil diluted in a carrier oil to care for acne and oily skin, to rub into dermatological lesions and as a hair conditioner.
