What is Melatonina LEK-AM and how does it work?
Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced in the central nervous system by the pineal gland. This hormone plays an important role in regulating the hours of sleep and wakefulness during the day. Melatonin LEK-AM is a synthetically produced equivalent of the natural hormone.
When is Melatonina LEK-AM used?
Melatonina LEK-AM is used as a supporting drug in:
- sleep disorders related to sleep-wake rhythm disorders, e.g. in sleep disorders related to time zone changes or shift work,
- disturbances of the circadian rhythm of sleep and wakefulness in blind patients.

What does Melatonina LEK-AM contain?
1 tablet of Melatonina LEK-AM contains the active substance: 5 mg of melatonin and auxiliary substances: microcrystalline cellulose 102, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, colloidal anhydrous silica.
How to use Melatonina LEK-AM?
Dosage of Melatonina LEK-AM:
For time-zone sleep disorders: 2 mg to 3 mg melatonin once daily after dark, starting on the first day of travel. Continue treatment for another 2-3 days after the end of travel.
In disorders of the circadian rhythm of sleep and wakefulness, e.g. related to shift work: 1 mg to 5 mg daily, one hour before bedtime.
In circadian sleep-wake rhythm disorders in blind people, 0.5 mg to 5 mg should be taken once a day around 9:00-10:00 p.m. This dosage also applies to long-term use of the drug. The drug’s effect is observed gradually, often after 2 weeks of taking the drug.
When should you not use Melatonina LEK-AM?
- if you are allergic to melatonin or any of the other ingredients of Melatonina LEK-AM,
- after drinking alcohol,
- during pregnancy or lactation.
