Fenistil drops are a drug that relieves itching and irritation caused by skin rashes, reduces swelling, and also relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as:
- watery nasal discharge (rhinitis),
- sneezing,
- itchy nose
- and itchy and watery eyes.
Fenistil drops inhibit the action of histamine – a substance responsible for allergic reactions.
After oral administration, the effect of the drops begins after 30-60 minutes and lasts for 8 to 12 hours.
Fenistil indications
Fenistil drops are used to treat symptoms of allergic diseases:
- skin: hives, pruritus in atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, endogenous dermatitis,
- respiratory system: seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic allergic rhinitis (e.g. allergy to house dust, animal hair, feathers).
The drug is used in the symptomatic treatment of food and drug allergies, as well as: relieves itching associated with infectious diseases (e.g. chickenpox). It can be used to relieve symptoms occurring after insect bites and to prevent allergic reactions occurring during desensitization treatment.
Active substance: Dimethindeni maleas
Fenistil drops composition
The active substance is dimethindene maleate. One milliliter of Fenistil contains 1 mg of dimethindene maleate.
The other ingredients are propylene glycol, benzoic acid, disodium edetate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, citric acid monohydrate, sodium saccharin, purified water.
Fenistil drops dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
Adults and children over 12 years of age
- The daily dose is 3 – 6 mg dimethindene administered in 3 equal divided doses.
- It is recommended to use 20 to 40 drops of Fenistil 3 times a day.
- Patients prone to drowsiness should use 40 drops before bedtime and 20 drops in the morning, during breakfast.
How long can you use Fenistil drops? The medicine should not be used for longer than 7 days.Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Use of Fenistil drops in children
Antihistamines in small children may cause agitation. The use of Fenistil drops in infants aged 1 month to 1 year and in children under 6 years should be carried out on the recommendation of a doctor.
Children under 12 years of age:
The recommended daily dose is 0.1 mg/kg body weight/day, i.e. 2 drops per kg body weight per day, given in 3 divided doses, e.g.
- 6 drops 3 times a day for an 8-month-old baby weighing 9 kg
- 8 drops 3 times a day for a 2-year-old child weighing 12 kg.
Do not exceed the maximum daily dose, which is:

20 drops = 1 ml = 1 mg dimethindene
The medicine should not be exposed to high temperatures. If the baby is bottle-fed, the medicine should be added to the bottle of warm food immediately before feeding. If the baby is spoon-fed, Fenistil drops can be administered undiluted, on a small teaspoon.
Fenistil in drops – contraindications
- allergy (hypersensitivity) to dimethindene maleate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- Do not use in newborns under one month of age, especially premature babies.
