ATAXXA TICK DROPS FOR DOGS UP TO 4 KG 1x0.4 ml

ATAXXA Spot-on solution for dogs up to 4 kg

Qualitative and quantitative composition:

Ataxxa 200 mg/40 mg – spot-on solution for dogs 1 pipette 0.4 ml contains:

  • Permethrin 200 mg, Imidacloprid 40 mg;

Excipient:

  • Butylhydroxytoluene (E321) 0.4 mg
  • Medium chain triglycerides
  • N-Methylpyrrolidone
  • Citric acid (E330)
  • Dimethyl sulfoxide

Contraindications

  • Due to the lack of available data, the product should not be used in puppies less than 7 weeks of age or weighing less than 1.5 kg.
  • Do not use in known cases of hypersensitivity to the active substances or any of the excipients.
  • Do not use the product on cats.

Special warnings for each target animal species

  • Single ticks may remain on the animal or there may be isolated bites from sand flies or Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. For this reason, the transmission of infectious diseases cannot be completely ruled out.
  • As the product will only demonstrate full repellent (anti-feeding) activity against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes 7 days after treatment, it is best to apply the product one week before animals are exposed to these mosquitoes.
  • The product remains effective against fleas when the animal is wet. Immersion in water for one minute, repeated for one week, did not affect the efficacy of the product against fleas. However, prolonged, intensive exposure to water should be avoided. In the event of frequent and/or prolonged exposure to water, the continued efficacy of the product may be reduced. In such cases, the product should not be applied more frequently than once a week. If shampooing is required on your dog, it should be used before or at least 2 weeks after treatment to optimise efficacy. The efficacy of the product against ticks following immersion in water or shampooing has not been established.

Special precautions for use in animals

  • Care should be taken to avoid the contents of the pipette coming into contact with the eyes or mouth of the dog being treated.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that the product is administered correctly. In particular, the treated animal or other animals with which it is kept should not be allowed to lick the application site.
  • DO NOT USE IN CATS.   The product is very toxic to cats and may be fatal due to their unique physiological conditions and inability to metabolize some compounds, including permethrin. To prevent accidental exposure to the product, keep treated dogs away from cats until the application site is dry. It is important to ensure that cats do not lick the application site on a dog that has been treated with this product. If such circumstances occur, contact your veterinarian immediately.
  • Before using the product on sick or weakened dogs, consult your veterinarian.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals.

  • Avoid contact of the product with skin, eyes and mouth.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke while applying the product.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after administration.
  • In case of accidental spillage on skin, wash off the product immediately with soap and water.
  • People known to have sensitive skin may be especially sensitive to this product.
  • The predominant clinical symptoms, which may occur in very rare cases, are transient skin hypersensitivity, consisting of a sensation of tingling, burning or numbness.
  • In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. If skin or eye irritation persists, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or label to the doctor.
  • Do not consume. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the leaflet or label to the physician.
  • Treated animals should not be touched, especially by children, until the application site has dried. It is therefore recommended to administer the product to the animal in the evening. Animals should not sleep with their owners, especially children, shortly after the treatment.
  • To prevent children from accessing pipettes, keep them in the original packaging until needed and dispose of them immediately after use.

Route of administration and dosage:

  • For spot-on use only. Apply only to intact skin.

The recommended minimum dose is:

  • 10 mg/kg body weight imidacloprid and 50 mg/kg body weight permethrin.

Apply topically to the skin according to body weight as follows:

Dogs (kg bw); Trade name; Volume (ml); Imidacloprid (mg/kg bw); Permethrin (mg/kg bw)

  • ≤4 kg; Ataxxa 200 mg/40 mg spot-on solution for dogs up to 4 kg; 0.4 ml; minimum 10; minimum 50.
  • >4 kg ≤10 kg; Ataxxa 500 mg/100 mg spot-on solution for dogs weighing 4 kg to 10 kg; 1.0 ml; 10 – 25; 50 – 125.
  • >10 kg ≤25 kg; Ataxxa 1250 mg/250 mg spot-on solution for dogs weighing 10 kg to 25 kg; 2.5 ml; 10 – 25; 50 – 125.
  • >25 kg ≤40 kg; Ataxxa 2000 mg/400 mg spot-on solution for dogs weighing over 25 kg; 4.0 ml; 10 – 16; 50 – 80.
  • For dogs weighing >40 kg an appropriate combination of pipettes should be used.

Body weight must be determined accurately to ensure correct dosing.

To reduce the likelihood of flea re-infestation, it is recommended that all dogs in the household are treated with the product. Other animals in the household should also be treated with an appropriate product. To make it more difficult for fleas to exist in the environment, it is recommended to use products that control adult fleas and developmental stages in the environment of the animal.

Depending on the presence of ectoparasites in the animal’s environment, repeated treatment may be necessary. Treatment intervals should be 4 weeks. However, in case of frequent and/or prolonged contact with water, the lasting effectiveness of the product may be reduced. In such cases, the product should not be applied more often than once a week.

Temporary cosmetic changes may be observed at the application sites (e.g. exfoliation of the epidermis, white deposits and hair loss).

Method of administration:

Remove the single-dose pipette from the package. Holding the pipette upright (after making sure all the solution is at the bottom of the pipette), unscrew and remove the tip. Turn the tip over and place the other end on the pipette. Press and twist the tip to pierce the seal, then remove it from the pipette.

Dogs weighing 10 kg or less:

  • With the dog standing, part the animal’s fur on the back between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze several times to squeeze the contents directly onto the skin.

Dogs weighing over 10 kg:

  • With the dog standing, the entire contents of the pipette should be evenly applied to four spots from the shoulder blades to the base of the tail. At each spot, part the animal’s fur on the back so that the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze gently to squeeze some of the solution onto the skin. Do not apply too much solution to one spot, as some of the product may run off the animal.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary

No adverse effects were observed after administration of 5 times the highest recommended dose to healthy puppies or adult dogs, or in puppies whose mothers were treated with 3 times the dose of the combination of imidacloprid and permethrin.

The severity of skin redness that may occur at the site of administration increases with overdose.

Pharmacokinetic properties

After topical application to the dog, the solution spreads throughout the animal’s body. Both active substances remain on the skin and hair coat of the treated animal for at least 4 weeks. The absorption of the product is so low that it does not affect the efficacy and tolerance of the target species.

Impact on the environment

The product should not enter watercourses as it may be dangerous to fish and other aquatic organisms. Products containing permethrin are toxic to honeybees.

Special precautions for storage

  • Store in original packaging to protect from moisture and light.
  • Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 3 years.
  • The product should not enter watercourses as it may be dangerous to fish and other aquatic organisms.
  • Close the pipette after use.
  • Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with applicable requirements.
