What is Apselan and how does it work?

Apselan reduces congestion of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, especially the mucous membrane of the nose and paranasal sinuses, which leads to a reduction in swelling and the amount of secretion and unblocking the nose.

Apselan – indications

Apselan is used for the symptomatic treatment of rhinitis and paranasal sinusitis (runny nose, blocked nose) in the course of:

• colds,

• flu,

• allergic rhinitis.

Apselan is indicated for use in adults and children over 12 years of age.

Active substance: Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum

Apselan drug composition

One film-coated tablet contains 60 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride ( Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum).

Excipients:

One film-coated tablet contains 52.91 mg of lactose monohydrate.

How to use Apselan?

Oral administration.

Dosage for adults and children over 12 years of age

One tablet 3 to 4 times a day, in children for a maximum of 4 days.

Dosage in elderly patients

No specific studies have been conducted on the effects of Apselan
in elderly patients. It is recommended to use the same dosage as in adults and pay special attention to renal and hepatic function. In cases of severe impairment of these organs, the medicinal product should be used with caution.

Dosage in patients with hepatic impairment

The medicinal product should be used with caution in patients
with severe hepatic impairment.

Dosage in patients with renal failure

The medicinal product should be used with caution in patients
with moderate or severe renal impairment.

When should Apselan not be used?

Hypersensitivity to the active substance (pseudoephedrine) or any of the excipients.

Apselan is contraindicated:

– in patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary heart disease;

– in patients who are taking or have taken in the last two weeks medicines from the group of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Concomitant use of Apselan and this type of medicines may sometimes lead to an increase in blood pressure;

– in patients taking furazolidone. The antibacterial furazolidone has a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on monoamine oxidase activity. Despite the lack of reports
of hypertensive crisis caused by concomitant administration of Apselan and furazolidone, these drugs should not be used concomitantly.

Apselan should not be used in patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
