The active substance of Amertil Bio is cetirizine dihydrochloride. Amertil Bio is an antiallergic drug.
Indications
Amertil Bio is indicated for adults and children aged 6 years and over:
- in relieving nasal and ocular symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis,
- in relieving the symptoms of hives.
Active substance: Cetirizine dihydrochloride
Composition
The active substance of Amertil Bio is cetirizine dihydrochloride. One coated tablet contains 10 mg of cetirizine dihydrochloride.
The other ingredients are: tablet core: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, crospovidone (type A), magnesium stearate; film-coating: hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E 171) and macrogol 400.
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
The tablets should be swallowed with a glass of liquid.
The tablet can be divided into two equal doses.
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age
10 mg (1 tablet) once daily.
Children aged 6 to 12 years:
½ tablet (5 mg) twice daily.
Patients with kidney problems
For patients with moderate kidney problems, the recommended dose is 5 mg once daily.
If you have severe kidney problems, talk to your doctor who will adjust the dose accordingly.
If your child has severe kidney problems, talk to your doctor who will adjust the dose to your child’s needs.
If you feel that the effect of Amertil Bio is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor.
Duration of treatment
The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and course of the disease and is determined by the doctor.
When starting treatment with cetirizine, the duration of use should not exceed 10 days without consulting a doctor.
If you take more Amertil Bio than you should
If you take more Amertil Bio than you should, contact your doctor immediately. Your doctor will decide whether and what measures should be taken.
After overdose, the side effects described below may occur with increased intensity. The following side effects have been reported: confusion, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, malaise, dilated pupils, itching, restlessness, sedation, drowsiness, stupor, rapid heart rate, tremor, urinary retention.
If you forget to take Amertil Bio
Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Stopping the use of Amertil Bio
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Amertil Bio is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age. Contact your doctor who will determine the dose of cetirizine and the pharmaceutical form appropriate for your child (e.g. oral drops or oral solution).
When not to use Amertil Bio?
- if you have severe kidney disease (severe renal failure with creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min),
- if you are allergic to cetirizine dihydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives (active substances with a similar structure contained in other medicines).
