What is Nurofen Plus?

Nurofen Plus is a medicine that contains the active substance – ibuprofen, which belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which have the ability to reduce such ailments as pain and fever. Codeine , the second active substance of Nurofen Plus, is a strong painkiller.

The combination of ibuprofen and codeine in Nurofen Plus provides a combined analgesic effect.

What are the indications for use of Nurofen Plus?

The drug is indicated for use in the following cases:

  • rheumatic and muscular pain, back pain, neuralgia, migraine, headaches, toothache, painful menstruation;
  • fever due to a cold or flu.

Composition of Nurofen Plus tablets

The active substances of the drug are ibuprofen and codeine phosphate hemihydrate – 1 coated tablet contains 200 mg of ibuprofen and 12.8 mg of codeine phosphate hemihydrate.

Excipients are:

  • tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl starch, pregelatinized starch, hypromellose;
  • tablet coating: hypromellose, talc, Opaspray white M-1-7111B (titanium dioxide (E 171), hypromellose).

How to use Nurofen Plus?

  • Adults and children over 12 years of age should take 1 to 2 tablets every 6 hours.
  • Swallow the tablets with some liquid.
  • Do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours.
  • The medicine should not be taken for longer than 3 days. If the pain does not subside after 3 days, consult a doctor.

Always use Nurofen Plus exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

When should you not use Nurofen Plus?

Nurofen Plus should not be used in patients:

  • with hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, codeine or any of the excipients of the drug and to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • who have ever had allergy symptoms such as runny nose, hives or bronchial asthma after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • with active gastric and/or duodenal ulcer or a history of perforation or bleeding, also associated with the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
  • with severe hepatic failure, severe renal failure or severe heart failure;
  • taking other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including COX-2 inhibitors (increased risk of side effects;
  • in the third trimester of pregnancy;
  • with bleeding diathesis;
  • with breathing disorders;
  • with chronic constipation;
  • for pain relief in children and adolescents (aged 0 to 18 years) following removal of palatine or pharyngeal tonsils due to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome;
  • if the patient knows that he or she metabolizes codeine into morphine very quickly;
  • if you are breastfeeding.
