Birch oil (from sugar birch bark) 100% essential

10ml

Birch oil is obtained from the bark of the sugar birch tree (Betula lenta), which occurs naturally in the Appalachian Mountains, located in the eastern part of North America. Sugar birch is a rich source of methyl salicylate, a derivative of aspirin. This compound is a natural antibiotic and antiseptic, and also has anti-inflammatory effects. Birch oil contains as much as 98% of it, which is why it is used to support the treatment of colds, to cleanse the body of microorganisms and to disinfect skin, fabrics, rooms and various surfaces.

Sugar birch played an important role in traditional medicine for Native North American Indians, who extracted its bark and sap. They made decoctions from the bark to relieve pain and reduce fever. They drank the sap in spring to boost immunity and restore vitality after the winter months.

Birch oil is not only an ally of health, but also an interesting aromatic product. Put a few drops on a tissue and smell it carefully. At first, it smells like eucalyptus, and some people will probably associate it with medicine. However, after a close “look” at this scent, you can feel a delicate, sugary sweetness that fantastically complements the eucalyptus freshness of the oil.

FEATURES

  • Birch oil provides solid support for our immunity. The methyl salicylate contained in it easily enters our body through the respiratory tract when we inhale the oil. Methyl salicylate acts as a natural antibiotic – it destroys bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, and also relieves fever. It cleanses not only our body of microorganisms, but also the air in rooms, fabrics, bedding and all surfaces if we add it to laundry or cleaning products. It is an effective agent for dust mites.
  • Birch oil applied to the skin and mucous membranes has a disinfecting, analgesic and anesthetic effect – and this is also due to methyl salicylate. After applying the oil to the skin, a burning sensation occurs, so remember to dilute it well.
  • This oil is great for soothing joint pain caused by inflammation. It also warms up and relieves tension in tired, strained muscles. It is worth rubbing it into injured areas or using it for a full-body massage after intense physical exercise.
  • The oil has an antispasmodic and choleretic effect, which is useful for relieving the unpleasant effects of too large a meal, intestinal cramps, and flatulence.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS

Sugar birch (Betula lenta), also known as cherry birch, is native to the eastern United States. It grows naturally in the Appalachian Mountains, forming extensive deciduous forests with beeches, limes, and maples. It has also settled in Europe, where it was introduced in the 18th century. It reaches a height of 20-25 m. It is covered with dark gray, cracked bark. Its leaves are ovate, with pointed tips and serrated edges. The flowers bloom in late spring. Male and female catkins are collected. The female ones stick up and are short, the male ones are long and drooping. After pollination of the female flowers, seed heads appear, resembling small cones.
