What is Xylogel and what is it used for?
Xylogel 0.1% is a medicine in the form of a gel containing the active substance xylometazoline hydrochloride .
Xylogel applied to the nasal mucosa causes:
- narrowing of blood vessels,
- reduces swelling and congestion of the nasopharyngeal mucosa,
- reduces the amount of secretion,
- moisturizing the nasal mucosa.
Xylogel gel is intended for use in adults and children over 12 years of age.
Xylogel – indications for use
Ancillary treatment:
- acute inflammation of the nasal mucosa of viral or bacterial origin;
- acute or chronic exacerbation of paranasal sinusitis;
- allergic rhinitis;
- acute otitis media – to unblock the Eustachian tube.
Active substance: Xylometazoline hydrochloride
Composition of Xylogel nasal gel 0.1%
The active substance of the drug is xylometazoline hydrochloride. Each gram of nasal gel contains 1 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.
The other ingredients of the drug are: sodium chloride, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate, disodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride solution, sorbitol, hydroxyethylcellulose, glycerol, purified water.
Dosage and use of Xylogel nasal gel
- Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 dose of gel in each nostril every 8 to 10 hours.
- 1 dose contains 0.1 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.
- Xylogel 0.1% is intended for nasal use only (also for otitis media).
- Do not use higher doses than recommended.
- Xylogel 0.1% should not be used for longer than 3 to 5 days.
- Xylogel 0.1% is intended for use in adults and children over 12 years of age.
- For hygienic reasons, the drug package should only be used by one patient.

Xylogel – contraindications
- if you are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
- in patients after removal of the pituitary gland or other surgical procedures involving exposure of the dura mater;
- in case of atrophic rhinitis.
