What is Xedine HA?
Xedine HA belongs to the group of sympathomimetic drugs used in diseases of the nose. This medicine contains xylometazoline hydrochloride, which helps to narrow blood vessels in the nose, thereby reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa. Xedine HA also contains hyaluronic acid (in the form of sodium hyaluronate), which protects and moisturizes the nasal mucosa.
Xedine HA 1 mg/ml is indicated for use in adults and children aged 12 years and over.
Indications
Reducing swelling of the nasal mucosa caused by inflammation of the nasal mucosa (rhinitis) or inflammation of the sinus mucosa (sinusitis).
Active substance: Xylometazoline hydrochloride
Composition
The active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride. Each ml contains 1 mg xylometazoline hydrochloride. Each dose (140 microliters) contains 0.140 mg xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Other ingredients (excipients) are: purified sea water, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium hyaluronate, purified water.
How to use and dose Xedine HA?
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended dose
Adults and children aged 12 years and over:
- 1 spray of Xedine HA into each nostril up to 3 times daily.
The medicine should not be used for longer than 5 days unless your doctor tells you to. You should wait a few days before using the medicine again.
Long-term use of the drug can lead to atrophy of the nasal mucosa, so in case of chronic disorders, the drug can only be used under the supervision of a physician.
Do not use more than the recommended dose.
If after 3 days there is no improvement or the patient feels worse, contact your doctor.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
This medicine must not be used in children under 12 years of age. Children aged 2 to 12 years should use Xedine HA 0.5 mg/ml.
When not to use Xedine HA?
- if you are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- if you have dry rhinitis (rhinitis sicca)
- if you have recently had neurosurgery (removal of the pituitary gland performed through the sphenoid sinus or any other neurosurgical operation involving exposure of the outer layer of the brain (meninges))
- if you have increased intraocular pressure, especially narrow-angle glaucoma
- in infants and children under 12 years of age
