What is Thiocodin syrup and what does it do?
Thiocodin in the form of syrup is an over-the-counter drug used for dry cough . The drug works in two ways, it allows you to get rid of a bothersome, unproductive dry cough, reducing the cough reflex. It also supports bronchial moistening and mucus production, and then helps expectorate the secretion.
Thiocodin contains two active substances : codeine phosphate hemihydrate and sulfoguaiacol.
- Codeine phosphate hemihydrate has an antitussive effect, inhibits the cough reflex, reducing the frequency of coughing attacks.
- Sulfoguaiacol has an expectorant effect , facilitates the movement of liquefied secretions in the respiratory tract and its expectoration.
Thiocodin is intended for people over 12 years of age. It is indicated for attacks of dry cough and cough changing from dry to wet.
Contraindications to use include: hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, asthma or bronchial insufficiency, cystic fibrosis, concomitant use of other expectorant drugs, as well as pregnancy and breastfeeding.
It is recommended to take Thiocodin syrup with meals. It can be taken no more often than every 4-6 hours. Use 1 measure of syrup (i.e. 10 milliliters) 3 times a day.
