What is Supremin and how does it work?
Supremin is a drug in the form of a syrup containing the active substance butamirate citrate.
Butamirate citrate is an antitussive substance. It relieves cough by central inhibition of the cough reflex, reducing the frequency and intensity of non-productive cough (dry, tiring). In addition to its antitussive effect, butamirate slightly dilates the bronchi.
Supremin syrup is intended for adults and children over 2 years of age.
What are the indications for use of Supremin?
Supremin is indicated for use in acute, dry cough.

Composition of Supremin syrup
The active substance is butamirate citrate. 5 ml (1 measuring spoon) of syrup contains 4 mg butamirate citrate.
The other ingredients of the drug are: methyl parahydroxybenzoate, benzoic acid, anhydrous citric acid, sodium citrate, liquid maltitol, aspartame, caramel-orange flavour (E 34493), purified water.
How to dose Supremin syrup?
Unless your doctor recommends a specific dosage, the medication is most often used:
- children aged 2 to 6 years – 1 measuring spoon (4 mg) 3 times daily;
- children aged 6 to 12 years – 2 measuring spoons (8 mg) 3 times daily;
- children over 12 years of age – 3 measuring spoons (12 mg) 3 times a day;
- adults – 3 measuring spoons (12 mg) 4 times a day
- Oral administration.
- The medicine should be taken before meals.
- The medicine package comes with a measuring spoon which allows you to measure 5 ml of syrup.

When should you not take Supremin?
- if you are allergic to butamirate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- in patients with phenylketonuria.
Contents: The Supremin package contains 200 ml of syrup and a leaflet.
