Properties of Rhodiola rosea
Rhodiola rosea is a plant that can contribute to optimal mental and cognitive activity. [1] Additionally, it helps in the proper functioning of the circulatory system and supports the digestive tract. [1] Considering the properties of Rhodiola rosea, it is especially recommended for physically active people, athletes and people who do intense mental work. [3]
Active substances R. rosea
According to numerous scientific studies, the most important substances responsible for the beneficial properties of R. rosea are considered to be polyphenolic compounds, i.e. phenylpropanoids, flavonoids, proanthocyanidins and tannins. The most well-known include rosavin and salidroside. Some researchers report that out of nearly 200 known species of Rhodiola sp., only Rhodiola rosea, in addition to salidroside, also contains rosavin and its derivative phytochemicals – rosin and rosarin.
