Otrivin Menthol Nasal Spray is a locally acting medicine that reduces congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa. Otrivin Menthol Nasal Spray unblocks a blocked nose, making breathing easier.
The active substance of Otrivin Menthol is xylometazoline hydrochloride.
Otrivin Menthol nasal spray also contains excipients such as menthol and eucalyptol, which give a feeling of coolness on the mucous membranes.
The effect of Otrivin Menthol begins within 2 minutes and lasts up to twelve hours. Otrivin Menthol is indicated for use in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Otrivin Menthol does not contain preservatives.
Indications
Otrivin Menthol nasal spray is used for excessive nasal congestion occurring during colds, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis.
By reducing the congestion of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, the drug can be used as a support in otitis media. Otrivin Menthol facilitates nasal endoscopy (examination of the nasal cavity).

Composition
One ml of solution contains | 1 mg xylometazoline hydrochloride. |
The other ingredients are: sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium chloride, disodium edetate, levomenthol, cineole (eucalyptol), sorbitol, macrogolglycerol hydroxystearate, purified water. |
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Otrivin Menthol should not be used in children under 12 years of age.
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age:
1 spray of Otrivin Menthol into each nostril 3 times a day. It is recommended to take the last dose of the medicine immediately before going to bed.
Do not use more than 3 times a day into each nostril.
Use of the drug in children and adolescents
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Otrivin Menthol should not be used if you are taking certain medicines for depression. These include:
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): Do NOT use Otrivin Menthol if you are taking MAOIs at the same time or have taken such medicines within the last 14 days,
- tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants.
If you are using any of the above medicines, consult your doctor before using Otrivin Menthol.
Contraindications
When not to use Otrivin Menthol
- if you are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- if you have had surgery performed through the nose, e.g. removal of the pituitary gland or surgery involving exposure of the dura mater (brain surgery performed through the nose or mouth)
- if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
- if you have very dry nasal mucosa (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis).
Contents: The Otrivin Menthol package is a bottle with a dosing pump containing 10 ml of a white solution with the scent of menthol and eucalyptol. The dosing pump allows you to dose the exact amount of medication.
