Sicilian Bergamot Oil 100% Essential Nanga
This oil is obtained from the peel of bergamot fruit (Citrus bergamium) – a citrus tree originating from Asia, now widely cultivated in Italy.
Bergamot oil has a light, refreshing, sweet-citrus-floral scent. Incredibly pleasant and not overwhelming, devoid of the bitter note typical of citrus oils. The scent of the oil instantly lifts the mood and soothes nervous tension.
Our bergamot oil has been cold pressed. For this reason, it cannot be heated, so as not to lose its valuable properties. It was created in Sicily, where oils are still pressed in the traditional way, through a process called sfumatura, which was invented in the 18th century. This is a very rare technique, because it requires more work and time, but the oils obtained in this way are distinguished by the highest quality. According to experts, oils produced in a modern way will never equal them [1].
Bergamot oil may be familiar to you if you drink Earl Grey tea, of which it is an essential ingredient. It also appears as a flavor in food products and cosmetics, and of course in perfumes, where it is a top note and an element that harmonizes and emphasizes the entire composition.
This oil was used in Italian folk medicine, not only externally, but also internally. Internally, it was used to treat fever, colds and parasitic diseases. It was used to help with all kinds of infections – respiratory system, throat, mouth, skin, urinary tract and digestive tract. Externally, it was mainly used to care for minor wounds, and it was also added to household detergents to enhance their antibacterial effect. Inhalations with the addition of the oil were supposed to help with upper respiratory tract infections [2].
FEATURES
- Bergamot oil is a fantastic aromatherapy ingredient. Its scent brings joy, lifts the spirits, and helps to let go of negative emotions. It helps to relax the body and mind, relieves anxiety and tension. Interestingly, this property was confirmed in a study involving humans. The study participants were exposed to bergamot oil for 15 minutes. This was enough to put them in a positive mood [3].
- Bergamot oil destroys bacteria, viruses and fungi, and repels insects and worms. It works as a natural antiseptic and repellent, and as an additive to cleaning and laundry products [4].
APPLICATION
- in aromatherapy, especially in low mood, in moments of sadness, fear, resignation, discouragement, apathy
- to be rubbed into skin affected by infection or fungus
- as an aromatic and antiseptic addition to cosmetics
- as an addition to washing and cleaning
HOW TO USE
ATTENTION
The oil has a photosensitizing effect, which means that if we apply it to the skin and then expose ourselves to the sun or go to a solarium, unsightly discolorations will appear on our skin.
- Aromatherapy burner – it is not recommended to heat citrus oils, because then they lose their aromatic and health-promoting properties. It is best to place them in a diffuser. If you do not have a diffuser, sprinkle the oil on a tissue, fabric, towel, blanket. This will be enough to “spread” the volatile compounds and beautiful scent in the room.
- Cold inhalation – put a few drops of oil on a handkerchief and inhale it several times a day.
- Bath – Add 3-15 drops of oil to a tub of warm, but not hot, water and mix well. Soak in the water for at least 20 minutes. Do not use detergents (it is best to take a shower before bathing with oils).
- Massage – add 15 – 30 drops of oil to 50 ml of carrier oil (e.g. grape seed) and mix.

PLANT CHARACTERISTICS
Bergamot orange (Citrus bergamium) belongs to the Rutaceae family. It is believed to have originated from a cross between a lemon (Citrus limon) and a bitter orange (Citrus aurantium). It probably comes from India, but today it is most abundant in Italy, where it is a popular cultivated tree. It can grow up to 12 m tall, but in cultivation it reaches a height of about 5 m. It develops a 5 m wide crown. There are a few thorns on its branches. The leaves are ovoid in shape and have serrated edges. The flowers are 5-fold, white, fragrant, gathered in umbels. Bergamot fruits are classified as berries. They resemble limes in appearance, except that they are slightly larger and their skin is strongly wrinkled.
