Ibuvit D3 4000 IU (international units) contains the active substance cholecalciferol, which is identical to vitamin D produced in the human body.
Vitamin D is found in some foods and is also produced in the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight.
Vitamin D increases calcium absorption from the intestines and reduces its excretion by the kidneys, which helps build bones. Vitamin D deficiency causes rickets (impaired bone mineralization in children) and osteomalacia (insufficient bone mineralization in adults).
Indications
Prevention of vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency (e.g. osteomalacia, osteoporosis) in adults with obesity [body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30].
Composition
1 capsule contains 100 micrograms (4000 IU) of cholecalciferol (vitamin D3)
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Prevention of vitamin D deficiency and conditions resulting from vitamin D deficiency in obese adults
Typically 4000 IU (1 capsule) daily, from October to April or throughout the year if effective cutaneous synthesis of vitamin D is not ensured during the summer months.
Do not use other medications, dietary supplements or foods containing vitamin D (cholecalciferol), calcitriol or other vitamin D metabolites and analogues without the supervision of a physician.
Children and youth
Ibuvit D3 4000 IU is contraindicated in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Method of administration
The capsules should be swallowed whole with water, preferably during a main meal.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients listed in section. Hypercalcaemia and/or hypercalciuria. Nephrolithiasis and/or nephrocalcinosis. Severe renal impairment. Hypervitaminosis D. Children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Pregnant women.
Comments
- Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Do not store above 30ºC. Store in original packaging in order to protect from light.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and blister after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
- Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These actions will help protect the environment.
