Neosine forte 1000 mg is an antiviral and immune-boosting drug in tablet form, available without a prescription. It is suitable for adults and children over 1 year of age.
Neosine Forte can be used as a supportive treatment in people with weakened immunity, in case of recurrent upper respiratory tract infections and in the treatment of cold sores on the lips and face caused by the herpes simplex virus .
Neosine Forte tablets contain inosine pranobex – an active substance that inhibits the multiplication of pathogenic viruses from the Herpes group.
Indications
Neosine forte tablets are used as a supporting drug:
- in people with weakened immunity, in case of recurrent upper respiratory tract infections,
- to treat cold sores on the lips and face caused by the herpes simplex virus ( Neosine can only be used in patients who have previously been diagnosed with herpes simplex infection).
Composition
1 tablet contains:
- active substance: inosine pranobex (Inosinum pranobexum) 1000 mg (a complex containing inosine and 2-hydroxypropyldimethylammonium 4-acetamidobenzoate in a molar ratio of 1:3);
- other ingredients: wheat starch, mannitol, povidone 30, magnesium stearate.
Action
The drug Neosine Forte has an antiviral effect and stimulates the functions of the immune system, contributing to the increase of the body’s resistance.
Dosage
How to use Neosine forte 100 mg tablets?
Always take Neosine forte 1000 mg exactly as described in the patient information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
- Adults, including the elderly (over 65 years): the recommended dose is 50 mg per kg of body weight per day – usually 1000 mg, or 1 tablet 3 times a day. Do not take more than 4 tablets a day.
- Children over 1 year of age: the recommended dose is 50 mg per kg of body weight per day, given in several divided doses. For children who cannot swallow tablets, it is recommended to administer Neosine forte in syrup.
- The tablet should be taken with a large amount of liquid, preferably water. If you have trouble swallowing the tablet, you can crush it and dissolve it in a small amount of water.
- Treatment usually lasts from 5 to 14 days. After the symptoms of the disease have subsided, it is recommended to take the medicine for another 1-2 days.
- There are no data on overdose. If you have any doubts or feel unwell, contact your doctor immediately.
- If you miss a dose, take the dose as soon as possible and continue treatment. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
Contraindications
Neosine forte 1000 mg should not be used:
- if you are allergic to the active substance (inosine pranobex) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (symptoms of an allergic reaction may include: skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue);
- if you are currently having a gout attack (severe joint pain with swelling and redness of the skin or effusion in large joints ) or tests have shown increased levels of uric acid in the blood;
- in children under 1 year of age.
Storage
Store the medicine out of the sight and reach of children, at a temperature below 25°C, in the original packaging.
Adverse reactions
Neosine forte, like all medicines, can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Common (1 to 10 in 100 patients):
- transient increase in uric acid levels in the blood;
- increased liver enzyme activity or blood urea nitrogen levels;
- nausea with or without vomiting;
- stomachache;
- headache or dizziness;
- joint pain ;
- fatigue, feeling unwell;
- itching, skin rash.
Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000):
- diarrhea ;
- constipation ;
- nervousness;
- drowsiness or difficulty sleeping (insomnia);
- excretion of large amounts of urine (polyuria).
Interactions
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. In particular, tell your doctor if you are taking:
- drugs to treat gout (e.g. allopurinol or other xanthine oxidase inhibitors);
- medicines that increase the excretion of uric acid, including diuretics (which increase urine production), e.g. furosemide, torasemide, ethacrynic acid, hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, indapamide;
- drugs that suppress the activity of the immune system (so-called immunosuppressive drugs, used in patients after organ transplantation or for atopic dermatitis);
- azidothymidine (a drug used to treat AIDS).
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Neosine forte:
- if you have had gout attacks or increased uric acid levels (the medicine may cause a temporary increase in uric acid levels in the blood and urine),
- if you have had kidney stones;
- if you have kidney problems (while you are taking Neosine forte your doctor will regularly test your blood and monitor your kidney function).
If you are undergoing long-term treatment (lasting 3 months or longer), your doctor will order regular blood tests and check your kidney and liver function.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
- Neosine forte should not be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding without consulting a doctor who will assess whether the benefits of the drug to the mother outweigh the risks to the child.
Driving and operating machinery
- The medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
- If you experience headache, dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive, operate machinery or perform other activities that require concentration.
The medicine contains wheat starch.
- Neosine forte contains very small amounts of gluten (from wheat starch). It is therefore very unlikely to cause any problems in patients with celiac disease.
- 1 tablet contains no more than 20.6 micrograms of gluten.
- The medicine should not be used by patients with wheat allergy (other than celiac disease).
