NANGA
100% essential oil
Nutmeg
10ml
Nutmeg essential oil is obtained from nutmeg (Myristica fragrans). Nutmeg is mainly used as a spice, but it is worth looking at it from a herbal perspective. The active compounds contained in it stimulate digestion and blood circulation, and in contact with the skin they warm and have an analgesic effect. In the past, it was used mainly for digestive disorders, flatulence and diarrhea. It was also called the lovers’ spice and was believed to act as an aphrodisiac.
Nutmeg is the fruit of the mace tree, a tree native to the Spice Islands. In medieval Europe, nutmeg was one of the most valuable spices, and also served as a medicine and preservative. For centuries, it was traded exclusively by the Arabs, who carefully guarded their trade routes. It was not until the early 16th century that Europeans discovered the way to the Spice Islands, obtaining a source of nutmeg and other spices. In Elizabethan times (16th–17th centuries), nutmeg was believed to ward off the plague. It was then the most expensive in its history, and despite this, demand for it did not decrease.
