Pyrantelum OWIX, 250 mg/5 ml, oral suspension 15 ml

Pyrantelum OWIX is an antiparasitic drug intended for children over 2 years of age and adults in the treatment of intestinal infections with pinworms – white roundworms.

The active substance of the drug is pyrantel . The drug acts on the muscles of intestinal parasites. Immobilized parasites are removed from the intestine by peristaltic movements of the intestines. Pyrantel does not irritate the intestines or cause the worms to move. It acts on mature forms and parasites in the early stages of development, but does not act on larvae during their migration in the tissues.

• Pinworms are small, white parasitic worms that live in the intestine. They look like threads of white cotton wool and their females are about 10 mm long. Individual pinworms are difficult to see, but when they multiply excessively, white, one-centimeter worms can be clearly seen moving in the stool. The presence of pinworms can also be detected by examining the anus of a sleeping child in the evening (preferably 2 hours after falling asleep, when the egg-laying process takes place).
• Mature females lay eggs in the anus area, causing persistent itching leading to constant scratching. As a result, this area becomes irritated and the eggs are transferred, first to the hands, then through nail biting or finger licking to the oral cavity, i.e. self-infection occurs, or they are transferred to other members of the family through direct or indirect contact, e.g. towels, bedding, toys, furniture.
• The symptoms of pinworms are observed mainly in children. However, the disease occurs at any age, although very often children are its main carriers. Pinworms manifest themselves with a strong itching sensation in the anus (it does not occur in all infected people), usually at night, which often causes inflammation. Children infected with pinworms may experience irritability, nervousness, insomnia, bedwetting or abdominal pain and lack of appetite. Girls sometimes develop inflammation of the vulva and vagina, which manifests itself with itching, burning and white discharge. In such cases, you should contact your doctor.
• It is very important to maintain proper hygiene, especially personal hygiene, in order to prevent self-infection or transmission of infection to other people. It is important that in the case of parasitic infection, the entire family of the patient observes increased personal hygiene. Given the frequent collective occurrence of enterobiasis, treatment should be carried out simultaneously in all people living together and should be repeated.

Pinworm in children from 2 years of age and adults

The active substance is pyrantel. 5 ml of oral suspension contains 250 mg of pyrantel (as pyrantel embonate).

The other ingredients are: sodium benzoate (E 211), carmellose sodium, sorbitol 70% (E 420), glycerol, aluminum magnesium silicate, polysorbate 80, povidone, apricot flavor, simethicone emulsion, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, purified water.

• The recommended dose for adults and children from 2 years of age weighing from 11 kg is: 11 mg/kg body weight once.
• This dose should be repeated two or three weeks after the first dose.
• Do not exceed the recommended dose of the medication.
• If symptoms persist after the second dose, contact your doctor.
• The medicine is taken orally, with or without a meal.
• Shake before use until a homogeneous suspension is obtained.
• It is not necessary to use laxatives before taking Pyrantelum Medana.

• if you are allergic to pyrantel or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• if you are taking piperazine;
• if you are being treated for myasthenia gravis (a disease of the skeletal muscles).
