What is Sudafed and how does it work?
Sudafed is a drug used in the symptomatic treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis (symptoms include runny nose, nasal congestion).
Sudafed reduces congestion of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract, especially the mucous membrane of the nose and paranasal sinuses, which leads to a reduction in swelling and the amount of secretion and unblocking of the nose.
Sudafed tablets are intended for adults and children over 12 years of age.
The drug is recommended to be taken in doses of 1 tablet, 3-4 times a day, with a glass of water. The maximum duration of taking tablets in children is 4 days.
Sudafed indications for use
Sudafed is used for the symptomatic treatment of rhinitis and sinusitis (runny nose, blocked nose) in the course of:
colds,
flu,
allergic rhinitis.
Sudafed is intended for adults and children over 12 years of age.
Active substance: Pseudoephedrini hydrochloridum
Composition
Active substance: one tablet contains 60 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
Other ingredients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate; Opadry OY-S-9473 coating composition: red iron oxide, hypromellose, talc, macrogol 400.
Sudafed Dosage
The drug is administered orally.
Sudafed 60 mg dosage for adults and children over 12 years of age
one tablet 3 to 4 times a day, in children for a maximum of 4 days.
Sudafed contraindications
hypersensitivity to pseudoephedrine or any of the excipients;
in patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary heart disease;
in patients who are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors in the last two weeks, the concomitant use of Sudafed and this type of medicine may sometimes lead to an increase in blood pressure;
in patients taking furazolidone – the antibacterial furazolidone has a dose-dependent inhibitory effect on monoamine oxidase activity, although there are no reports of hypertensive crisis caused by concomitant administration of Sudafed and furazolidone, these drugs should not be used concomitantly.
Contents: Sudafed is a round, biconvex, film-coated tablet of brown-red color, with the inscription “SUDAFED” on one side. The package consists of 1 blister containing 12 tablets, in a cardboard box.
