What is Prospan and how does it work?
Prospan is an expectorant herbal medicine used for coughs and colds in the form of a syrup.
The composition of the drug contains dry extract of ivy leaves . Its main active ingredients are: triterpene saponins of glycosidic nature (α-hederin, hederagenin and hederacoside C).
The syrup is used as an expectorant in productive cough, i.e. wet cough . The preparation has a secretolytic effect (liquefies the accumulated bronchial secretion), spasmolytic effect (relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi) and cough-relieving effect. Thanks to these properties, the bronchial mucus accumulated in the respiratory tract is liquefied and its expectoration is facilitated.
Prospan is intended for children over 2 years of age and adults.
